For any of you who follow any of the artists who contributed to that pack, you may have heard that it was pirated rather quickly.
Now, as much as the idea and concept are disliked, I believe the only way to prevent that would’ve been a paywall. I can tell some would cringe at the idea, but it’s the only way to get a set amount before it comes out.
To be honest, I’m not surprised that the pack got out that quickly, since I know how fast pirates can work. I just wish people would patronize the creators a bit more.
Paywall description below the break.
For those who don’t know what a paywall is, it's system where a product is withheld from the open market until a set amount of money is raised for the aforementioned product.
Now, this concept is ONLY GOOD when used on collaborative/larger products like art packs, albums, games, etc. It also lets you know that if you are to release the product, you will get [x] amount of money before you release it and let people get it for free. Might be in the creator’s/creators’ best interest(s) to keep dopnations open afterwards too.
For those who do not trust that a pack or product will reach a certain amount of money before it gets pirated like mad, it’s the only availible method.
Techincally it happens with commissions already. Pay first, get the product later. This way it just helps out the artist.
