Sword (Rudus) and Scabbard

  • Dated: 1835
  • Inlayer: Muhammad Salih of Terumon (Malaysian, active Kampung Payang, circa 1835)
  • Geography: Kuala Berang
  • Culture: Malaysian, Kampung Payang, and Sumatra, Aceh
  • Medium: steel, wood, horn, gold
  • Measurements: L. with scabbard 33 1/8 in. (84.1 cm); L. without scabbard 31 ¼ in. (79.4 cm); L. of scabbard 26 ¾ in. (67.9 cm); W. 5 5/16 in. (13.5 cm); Wt. 24.1 oz. (683.2 g); Wt. of scabbard 12.5 oz. (354.4 g)

The sword is exceptional for the gold decoration inlaid on its blade, which includes a date and an inscription identifying the artist as “Muhammad Salih of the state of Terumon in the village of Payung.” While the place names appear to refer to the Malaysian Peninsula, the form of the hilt, blade and scabbard are distinctive to a region of northern Sumatra inhabited by the Aceh and Pakpak peoples, suggesting the sword was made in Sumatra and then decorated in neighboring Malaysia.

Too much of a pussy to reply to me, eh? That's what I thought!

Actually I just stopped caring about a faceless nobody asking for answers from me when he/she/it can’t be upfront about it.

I have about as much of an obligation to answer your questions (or even reply to you at all) as I have an obligation to patronize the fund for tree balding awareness.

I will say though that you taking the time out of your day to stay angry at me is just so sad to see. Go do something productive with your life and stop wasitng your time here.

2 Art things :D

1. PERSPECTIVES SUCK. Trying to draw a treehouse and I’m disliking my rough version. Tried using the 3-point perspective method and pbbblblblt, it blows. Not sure how to go about drawing it for now.

2. That OC ref is a colored sketch not a flat color. I don’t know if I should make Colored Sketches a commission type or not, because they’re a helluva lot easier than full linework. However, linework looks nicer IMO int he flats. Idk.

Just a quick tip to artists

If you’re an artist who likes to work really close, (like me), do yourself a favor and put up two views. You can do this by clicking View–> New on your toolbar.

There’s nothing worse than finally zooming out and realizing what you were doing was very wrong. This saved me a lot of grief tbh. I’m sure everyone knows this already but ._.;; I arrived quite late to that party.

Too much of a big shot to add me on Skype, eh? Well FUCK YOU then! Eat a dick.

I know three people who you might be, but I’ll keep it to myself for the time being

Also, three things, prick.

1. Skype is not the hub of everyone I know and their friend’s friends. It’s a small-ish list of people I either enjoy speaking to, have known for a long time, have done business with (Commissions), and have obtained through 2-4 degrees of separation. If I didn’t add you, it’s not pride, it’s just that I don’t know you well enough to trust having you as a contact. If you knew my history of previous contacts, you’d better understand why I’m picky about Skype.

2. Instead of being a belligerent, faceless, and above all rude coward, you could’ve just -messaged me- as your actual identity asking to add me or why I haven’t, and I would’ve given you a private, honest answer, or have just added you. But noooooooo you just had to be that guy.

3. >Too much of a big shot. Ha! Haven’t heard this much bullshit since the Mayweather decision.
